Profile

Mariko Okabe focuses on actual language use, and incorporates various activities into her teaching so that students experience using language firsthand. Her research areas include Japanese pedagogy, Japanese teacher training, self-assessment of language learners, language learning support and learning resources. Her recent publications concern the utilization of resources outside the classroom, and how Japanese native speakers (tutors) gain through supporting Japanese language learners in a university setting.
