Overview

Expand your world perspective with a study abroad experience. Through iCLA’s Study Abroad Program, you can develop leadership skills, versatility, and cultural awareness, all of which are indispensable in a global workplace.
We have partnerships with 60+ universities in over 30 countries, so you can find an exchange destination that best fits your academic goals.If you are an international degree-seeking student, iCLA’s Study Abroad Program is optional. The length of the study abroad is up to you, whether you would like to go abroad for 1 or 2 semesters.

One year of the Study Abroad Program is required of domestic students as part of our curriculum.

Length of study abroad period One year.

(Study abroad is optional for international degree-seeking students and can only select one university. One year of study abroad is compulsory for domestic students.)

Period of study abroad Based on the partner institution.
Generally, as follows:

  • Spring Semester start: January-December
  • Fall Semester start: September-July
Year of study From the third year (in principle)

Note: Year of study depends on the student’s level of English proficiency. Students who satisfy the requirements listed below for study abroad may be permitted to study abroad a semester earlier. Third-year students may not be permitted to study abroad if they do not satisfy the requirements.

GPA and Language Requirements Students must satisfy the language and GPA requirements specified by the host university.

Regardless of the requirements of the partner school, it is strongly recommended to meet the following criteria in order to earn credits at the study abroad destination.

  • English proficiency: TOEFL ITP 550 points or higher, iBT 78 points or IELTS 6.0 (each subsection 5.5) or higher.
  • Cumulative GPA of more than 2.0 at the time of filing an application.

If these minimum standards are not met, students may have a limited choice of, or may not be able to find a partner university for Study Abroad.

Course Completion Requirements 1) Participation in the information sessions

2) Earn credits in the following subjects (mandatory)

  • Composition 1, Composition 2*, Academic Reading Across Disciplines [or in place earn credits in “Expository Research Writing”]
  • Omnibus Themes (Spring OR Fall) [or in place earn credits in “Introduction to World Issues”- Available only until March 2019]
  • Pathway Course from the selected Major area
  • World History OR 1 additional Pathway course
  • Career Design 1

*Students taking EAE for 2 semesters may take Composition 2 the semester after internal application. A mid-semester progress check will be conducted.

To be eligible for iCLA’s internal screening, students must have taken and passed, or must be currently taking the above courses at the point of internal application.

  • Career Design 2
  • Career Design 3

Application Overview

Students should review information about partner universities, their requirements for study abroad, and the steps leading up to study abroad.

Meet with academic advisors for advising about partner universities. Students must then submit the designated study abroad application forms to the iCLA Administrative Office.

Study Abroad Application Form Submission Deadline:
Study abroad from the Fall of the following year: By mid-December (last day of class of Fall Semester)

Study abroad from the Spring of the following year: By late July (last day of class of the Spring Semester)

The iCLA Study Abroad Selection Committee screens applicants and issues the approval for each student's partner university.

Students should consult with their academic advisor about the courses they plan to take at the partner institution and create a study plan. Study plans must be approved prior to departure.

Submit documents to the host university.

Students are screened in accordance with the criteria of the host university.

Arrange accommodation at study abroad location.

Arrange the visa, plane tickets, and overseas health insurance. Make final preparations for departure.

After Study Abroad: Credit Transfer

iCLA Study Abroad Program participants who complete their exchange studies will be eligible for credits to be transferred towards their degree at iCLA.
