1. How has iCLA handled the Coronavirus Pandemic?
“Hi my name is Daniel Guise. I am the international marketing officer here at iCLA and I’m here to answer the top five questions our prospective students have about iCLA.
Simply put, we have moved classes online (NB. Since this video was posted, classes have moved to a hybrid, face-to-face/online format). We are a residential campus and we do have students living in the dorms but we also have students joining us online from their home countries. We hope that once the travel bans into Japan have been lifted, then all of our students will come and join us.”
2. What are the Entry Requirements?
“You need your high school diploma and standardized test results. You also need to meet our English language requirements. We accept many different countries’ standardized tests, so check out the application guide on our website. In many cases you do not need to have taken the SAT to apply. While your grades are an important factor in your application to iCLA, we don’t have a minimum GPA requirement for entry. Rather, we look at you as an applicant holistically to decide whether you are a good fit for iCLA and whether iCLA is a good fit for you.”
3. Do I need to know Japanese?
“Do I need to speak any Japanese in order to apply to iCLA? Do you need to know what that (the scroll behind me) means? The answer is no. This is an English medium degree. We have Japanese classes as part of the degree, so if you come here with nothing you can study a little bit. If you do speak Japanese that’s great! We have level check classes at the start of the degree, so we can slot you into an appropriate class.”
4. What are your fees?
“To apply, there is a 7,000 Yen application fee. If you receive an offer and you’d like to accept that, there is a one-time enrollment fee of 200,000 yen. Our tuition, equipment and facility fees workout to 1.596 million yen per year. We’re a residential campus and there are dorms on site. The dorm and utility fees are 564,000 yen per year. We also have a cafeteria on site that provides a meal plan serving three meals a day on weekdays and that works out to 1,833 yen per day.”
5. Do you have Scholarships? How do I apply for them?
“The good news is “Yes, we do have scholarships!”. We have four tiers of scholarships, 25, 50, 75 and 100% waiver of tuition, equipment and facility fees. To apply, you just tick an extra box as part of our online application and write a scholarship essay. We determine whether to give you a scholarship or not based on your academic performance, any extra-curricular achievement that you’ve got, and your family’s financial need. You’ll receive the result of your scholarship application at the same time as your offer.”
